Painting estimate app for contractors
Tapebid measures the room, works out the paint and prices the job with your own rates. Your customer gets a Good, Better, Best estimate and signs it on their phone, before you leave the driveway.
It measures the room for you
Type the length, width and ceiling height, say them out loud, or scan the room with LiDAR on an iPhone Pro. Each window and door has its own size and comes off the walls by itself. Closets and accent walls are a tap away.
Example: a 14 × 12 ft bedroom
An 8 ft ceiling, two 3 × 4 ft windows and one 3 × 7 ft door.
- Walls: 2 × (14 + 12) × 8 = 416 sq ft, less 24 for the windows and 21 for the door: 371 sq ft.
- Ceiling: 14 × 12 = 168 sq ft.
- Baseboards: 52 ft around, less 3 ft for the door: 49 ft.
- Wall paint: 371 sq ft × 2 coats ÷ 350 sq ft a gallon = 2.12 gal, bought as 2 gallons and 1 quart.
Every number has a "Why this number?" that shows the steps, so you can explain the price and stand behind it.
Priced your way
- By the square foot (walls, ceilings, baseboards by the foot, doors each), or by the hour plus materials.
- Your price is for two coats. One coat or a third changes it by the share you set.
- Prep at your hourly rate: patching, sanding, caulking, masking, or a task of your own at a flat price.
- Primer, trim and door paint, and supplies, each when the room needs them.
- Taller baseboards and wider door and window casings cost more, in proportion.
- "Harder than usual" adds a percentage to the labor of a room with high ceilings or a lot of cutting in.
- Paint is bought the way you buy it: whole gallons and quarts, or litre cans. Feet or metres, any currency.
Good, Better, Best in one estimate
One estimate, three options, each with its own total and deposit. To start with, Good paints the walls, Better adds the ceilings and the baseboards, and Best adds the doors and a premium paint. You decide what goes into each option, rename them and mark the one you recommend. Your customer compares them side by side and picks one.
Exterior painting
For the outside of a house, Tapebid works from the footprint: the length and width once around, and the height of the walls up to the eaves. Windows and doors come off the walls, and the paint follows what the walls are made of.
Example: a 40 × 30 ft house
Walls 9 ft high, eight 3 × 4 ft windows and two 3 × 7 ft doors.
- Walls: 140 ft around × 9 = 1,260 sq ft, less 96 for the windows and 42 for the doors: 1,122 sq ft.
- Paint: as much as the siding takes, for wood, stucco, brick or vinyl.
- Eaves and gutters: by the length around the house, 140 ft.
- Pressure washing, scraping and sanding, and primer, over the whole wall area.
- Window trim and doors, with trim paint for everything that gets it.
- A price of your own for any of them, when the house calls for it.
From estimate to signature
Tapebid makes a PDF with your company name on it and a link to the estimate. You send it from your own phone, by text, WhatsApp or email. Your customer opens the link, compares the options, picks one and signs with a finger. There is nothing to install and no account to make. Or they sign on your phone, right there in the room, even with no signal.
You see when the estimate is opened and when it is signed, and you both keep the signed PDF with who signed and when. After that, the same job carries on in the app: change orders signed the same way, an invoice with what is left to pay, and a shopping list of what to buy.
