Square footage, waste and boxes
The floor is the room's length times its width, plus any closets. The cutting waste follows the layout: 10% laid straight, 15% on a diagonal and 20% in herringbone, and you can change each one. The boxes are rounded up to whole boxes, because that is what you buy.
Example: a 14 × 12 ft bedroom in laminate
- Floor: 14 × 12 = 168 sq ft.
- With 10% waste: 168 + 16.8 = 184.8 sq ft.
- Boxes: 184.8 ÷ 22 sq ft a box = 8.4, so 9 boxes.
- Underlayment, with no waste: 168 ÷ 100 sq ft a roll, so 2 rolls.
- Thresholds: 1, for the door.
Each room can have its own flooring, with what a box covers and what it costs, so the guest room in laminate and the living room in oak go on the same estimate.
Everything around the floor
- Taking out the old floor: carpet, vinyl, tile or hardwood, each at its own price by the square foot.
- Hauling away the debris and moving the furniture, each at a flat price.
- Leveling the subfloor.
- Baseboards taken off and put back, by the foot, priced for their height.
- Stairs, by the step, with the flooring and a stair nose for each one.
- Thresholds and transitions, one a door or as many as you count.
- A price of your own for any material in one room, or for any of the extras.
Next to painting and tile
A room can have more than one trade. Paint the walls and lay the floor in the same room, tile the bathroom next door, and send it all as one estimate with Good, Better and Best options. You decide which option includes the new floor.
From estimate to signature
Tapebid makes a PDF with your company name on it and a link to the estimate. You send it from your own phone, by text, WhatsApp or email. Your customer opens the link, compares the options, picks one and signs with a finger. There is nothing to install and no account to make. Or they sign on your phone, right there in the room, even with no signal.
You see when the estimate is opened and when it is signed, and you both keep the signed PDF with who signed and when. After that, the same job carries on in the app: change orders signed the same way, an invoice with what is left to pay, and a shopping list of what to buy.
